Ming Liu on Chinese Daoism (Taoism) - March 14, ACS Colloquium at CIIS (Part 1)

Quite a number of religions are practiced in China. Taoism is one of the major ones. In fact, it is native to China, where it has been around, first as a philosophy, then as a religion, for well over 2000 years. A key element in the Taoist belief system is the worship of mountains. So, not surprisingly, Taoist masters often spend long periods of their lives living on mountains, where they cultivate themselves with the aim of achieving immortality. China has more than a hundred mountains that are well-known for their associations with Taoism. The holiest is the Wudang Mountains in the northwestern part of Hubei Province.
