JF-17 Thunder dazzling air display - Paris Air Show 2015

Is Indian Tejas a good jet, yes it is but its a late one, so late that other competitors are way ahead in its class. The project started in 1983 and was commissioned in 1986 by injection over 500 crore of indian rupee in this project. Dassault engineers were also paid over 100 Million USD for their consultancy and services. It was a very promising project when we think about it, a 4th Generation, multirole, multi mission, light weight, modern design, specially designed for Air Superiority and Secondary ground attack. It was an amazing jet on paper and India was keen for it. But the first prototype flight was done in 2001 which was very late compared to previously planned dates. Also India could only make 5 as prototype. By 2005, it was good year for India as Indian Airforce orders 20 Jets and Indian Navy also showed interest in Tejas and ordered 50 Jets.. Indian Airforce also ordered 20 more jets by 2010-2011. By 2011 and 2012 we saw that Tejas went into trouble when they were criticised because of their slow speed, Angle of Attack, operational range, overweight and other points, these complains arose when Tejas weren't even cleared for FOC. Then Tejas were reportedly to have a severe security issue in their ejection seat. which caused the project to be grounded for 3 months and was later fixed. Tejas Flight Operational Clearance is also another problem, in 2015 it was expected to happen in 2016, in 2016 it was delayed to 2017 and now it is expected to be cleared in mid 2018 Tejas was later rejected by Indian Navy for being overweight and Indian Airforce said that they are unhappy because of performance issues and being extremely late.
