মূল পদ্মা সেতুর আগেই শেষ হতে যাচ্ছে ঢাকা-খুলনা মহাসড়ককে ৪ লেনে উন্নীত করার কাজ। প্রকল্প সংশ্লিষ্টরা জানিয়েছেন, দেশের প্রথম এই এক্সপ্রেসওয়ের নির্মাণ কাজ এরমধ্যে ৪০ শতাংশ শেষ হয়েছে। পদ্মা সেতুর আগেই এ মহাসড়ক খুলে দেয়ার ব্যাপারে আশাবাদী সরকার। এতে আমূল পাল্টে যাবে দেশের দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিমাঞ্চলের সঙ্গে রাজধানী ঢাকার যোগাযোগ ব্যবস্থা। বছর দুয়েক আগের ঢাকা মাওয়া সড়কের ছবি এটি। অনেকটাই সবুজ, দুপাশের গাছপালায় ঢাকা সে ছায়াবীথির রূপ এখন উধাও। সেখানে এখন চলছে বিশাল নির্মাণযজ্ঞ। যাত্রাবাড়ি থেকে মাওয়া পর্যন্ত ৩৫ কিলোমিটার আর মাদারিপুর থেকে ফরিদপুরের ভাঙ্গা পর্যন্ত ২০ কিলোমিটার সড়ককে ফোর লেনে রূপান্তরে চলছে দিন রাত কাজ। এ মহাসড়কে ছোট বড় সেতু থাকবে ৩১টি। থাকবে ৬টি ফ্লাইওভার, ৪টি রেলওয়ে ওভারপাস, ১৫টি আন্ডারপাস আর ৩টি ইন্টারচেঞ্জের সুবিধা। ৪ লেনের মহাসড়কের দুপাশে স্থানীয় যানবাহন চলার জন্য থাকবে ৫ মিটারের দুটি আলাদা লেন। সব মিলে তাই নির্মাণ হবে ৬টি লেন। কোন ট্রাফিক সিগন্যাল না থাকায় নিরবিচ্ছিন থাকবে দেশেল প্রথম এ এক্সপ্রেসওয়েতে গাড়ির গতি। কাজ শেষ করার কথা ২০১৯ সালের এপ্রিল মাসের মধ্যে। এ লক্ষ্যে একাধিক ঠিকাদারি প্রতিষ্ঠানকে পুরো কাজ ভাগ করে দেয়া হয়েছে। দেশি বিদেশি প্রকৌশলীরা আছেন তত্বাবধানে। মূল পদ্মা সেতুর কাজ পিছিয়ে থাকলেও প্রত্যাশিত গতিতেই এগুচ্ছে ফোর লেনের কাজ। প্রকল্পটি বাস্তবায়ন করছে সেনাবাহিনীর ২৪ ইঞ্জিনিয়ার কনন্সট্রাকশন ব্রিগেড। নির্ধারিত সময়ে কাজ শেষ হওয়ার ব্যাপারে আশাবাদী সরকার। The main Padma bridge is going to end before the Dhaka-Khulna highway is upgraded to four lanes. Project concerned, the construction of the first expressway of the country ended 40 percent of the work. The government hoped to open the highway before Padma bridge. It will change radically with Dhaka's communication system in the south-western part of the country. It is a couple of years ago on the pictures of Dhaka Mawa road. To this end, the entire work has been divided into more than one contracting company. Local overseas engineers are under supervision. The work of the main Padma Bridge is behind but the lane's work is progressing at the expected pace.
