The Kicker, Germany's leading newspaper, wrote, "Sergen gave a performance that has never been seen before in Germany." This was the final group game of the Euro 2000 qualifier between Germany and Turkey. The match ended 0-0 which meant that Turkey had to qualify for Euro 2000 via the play-off.
