Why Did Lord Shiva Fight Lord Krishna – 1. Lord Krishna had a grandson named Aniruddha. He was the son of Pradyumna and a bright young prince. Aniruddha was in love with Usha, the daughter of demon king Banasura. 2. Aniruddha had followed Usha to her father’s kingdom Sonitapura. There Banasura sent guards to capture him but he killed them all. Later Banasura used his magical powers to imprison Aniruddha successfully. 3. Krishna, Balarama and all other family and relatives of Aniruddha were worried as he did not return for several months. Narada muni informed them about Aniruddha’s imprisonment. Krishna along with Balarama, Satyaki, Nanda, Gada and many others decided to siege Sonitapura and rescue Aniruddha. 4. However, it was not an easy fight for Krishna’s side. This is because Banasura was a great bhakt of Lord Shiva and had a boon that gave him Shiva’s protection. Shiva along with his son Kartikeya and Ganesh joined Banasura’s army. Banasur was eldest son of King Bali among the 100 sons. He was the 10 th descendant of Prahlad. He was very fond of Lord Shiva from childhood. When he was grown up, he meditated and worshiped hard to appease Lord Shiva. One day, seeing this, Lord Shiva visited him. He gave him the boon of thousand powerful arms. With this boon, he became very powerful. Banasur also asked for one more boon that Shiva would always protect him whenever he would face difficulty or in trouble.
