There is a great debate about whether there is any historical accuracy in the story of Mahabharata. This narrative is so remarkable that it has made numerous people speculate - ‘Did it really happen? people have been telling about the Mahabharata since old times when it was not easy to access information as it is today. if it would have been a work of fiction why would have people erected the temple of lord Krishna and if mahabaharata wouldn’t have had happened at kurukshetra why would have people preserved so much things till today. The dynasties mentioned in Mahabharata is very huge and proper reference of kingdoms and areas are provided. And every scripture has have the same lineage of dynasties with little differences. To provide so much information about kings, their descendants in a work of fiction doesn’t seems right. Yes I agree that there is lack of proof which makes it fiction but things are being discovered and we might find some amazing things about Mahabharata existence in near future. Lets not forget that Before discovering Indus valley civilization India was not recognized among the oldest civilization of world. And even after the work of over century things are being still discovered and they are making people astound with its finding. so its not good to reach on judgement just because we couldn't find it. Moreover, all places mentioned in Mahabharata are real places, all are identified as real places. For instance,Hastinapur is in UP. Indraprastha is the present day Delhi. Dwarka is located in Gujarat coast. Recently researchers have found the city of Dwaraka under the sea in the said place. They found have been verified to be 5000-32000 years older. Thus the island city of Dwaraka did exist. Mahabharata cities are not limited to present day India because Mahabharata referred Indian subcontinent as Bharata. According to legend, Sage Vyasa narrated the story of Mahabharata to Ganesha in a cave located around 3kms from Badrinath, which is today known as “Ganesh Guha.”
