The Little Hours is not to be confused with those starchy depictions of obedient brides of Christ risking eternal damnation by dabbling on the darkest side of sin. Alessandra (Alison Brie), Fernanda (Aubrey Plaza, also starring in Ingrid Goes West, playing at SFF this year) and Ginevra (Kate Micucci) are historically accurate representatives of the many social outcasts and sexual misfits sent to convents in medieval times. So, it's perfectly natural that they're sassy types who wouldn't mind some male company. Armed with a very 21st century attitude and fabulous performances, Baena's zippy combo of European exploitation film and raunchy modern comedy runs gleefully riot once hunky hired hand Massetto (Dave Franco) arrives at the convent and begins toiling its very fertile soil.
